VA Tech has 26,000students and 10,000 employees with 34 police officers. Campus police need to have a closer relationship with off-campus police, and all shooting incidents should require a communication to off-campus police immediately. The "shooter left the building and maybe the campus" is not an okay plan!
The shooter was an anti-social silent loner who was articulate only in his English class writings to the extent that his written plans of violence described repeatedly alarmed his professor, causing her on several occasions to demand medical help for him. But our country's medical intervention
criteria requires the psych unbalanced person to first harm someone else or himself before medical assistance is given.This "PC" attitude should be modified at least on campuses. We have SAT requirements to get on campus; let's have mental health requirements to stay there!
